Job Description :

Bloomberg News is seeking an Islamic Bonds Reporter in Kuala Lumpur to cover bond and currency markets. Successful candidates will be expected to produce breaking news stories and market reports on economic and political events under real-time deadlines. Covering these fast-changing markets that influence government and central bank policy requires journalists who can cut through market jargon and write the news in a clear and understandable way. The job also includes writing features and profiling policy markets, traders, strategists and investors.

Qualifications :

- Ability to write clear, concise and accurate news stories .
- Experience in reporting on or writing about currency markets or, at minimum, financial  news is essential .
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is essential .

Job Description:

The Public Relations Coordinator will have primary responsibility for assisting the Director of Public Relations in obtaining positive visibility for Ropes & Gray and its leading national practice groups. Major areas of focus will include prospecting for potential stories of interest to the media and working with the firm's outside PR vendors to pitch stories to the media. The Coordinator would be based in the firm's NY office and reports to the Director of Public Relations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Prospect and pitch stories to the trade and daily press
• Field and vet media inquiries for potential interviews with Ropes & Gray experts
• Assist Director of Public Relations and vendors in story pitches to editors and reporters
• Schedule and attend meetings with lawyers throughout firm to obtain updates on significant cases and deals, as well as ascertain trends and developments for visibility purposes
• Attend firm events (e.g., practice group lunches) to obtain potential story pitches
• Draft press releases and external announcements
• Participate in weekly calls with PR vendors
• Respond to media inquiries
• Assist in the planning and execution of visibility initiatives
• Assist the Internal Communications Director and Chief Marketing Officer, including internal visibility through the firm's intranet
• Serve as a resource for attorneys and marketing and business development staff
• Conduct a variety of research, including media outlets, reporters, editors; practice groups and industries; and peer law firms.
• Develop solid understanding of each firm and practice groups' strategies and priorities.
• Manage media data base.

ESSENTIAL CAPABILITIES:

• Demonstrated understanding of process by which stories originate and are published in various media
• Ability to develop relationships among the media and work closely with reporters and editors
• Excellent writing and editing skills
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (orally as well as in writing) with all levels of attorneys and staff
• Ability to command attention in fast-paced, highly demanding environment
• Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a team as well as independently; Must be able to share information, goals, opportunities, successes and failures with the appropriate parties

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED :

• Bachelor’s Degree with 3-5 years journalism, PR agency or professional services experience
• Minimum of 2 years of experience writing press releases
• Experience prospecting for and pitching potential stories
• Prior experience working with various forms of media, including print, electronic and social media
• Knowledge of various media platforms in which attorneys can obtain visibility, including electronic media
• Demonstrable ability to communicate effectively and concisely in writing and orally
• Excellent organization, project management, and communication skills required

Job Description:

The Media Relations and Public Affairs Officer (MRPAO) will report to the Director of Public Affairs and Public Information and will engage in both reactive and proactive media relations and public affairs efforts. The MRPAO will help maintain and expand ASA's new, creative publicity program and ongoing science policy program. The MRPAO will work to integrate media relations into the Association’s activities and programs, working with staff and members across the entire organization to generate outcomes that enhance the public visibility of sociology and the profile of the Association among non-member and member audiences.

Applicants must have polished writing/editing skills and the ability to translate complex social science research for non-scientists (two writing samples of clear, concise, press-friendly copy are welcome). Successful applicants will be well-organized, able to engage in strategic thinking, capable of multi-tasking under deadline, imaginative in identifying and communicating newsworthy information to journalists, confident as a team member or in independent initiatives, and skilled with Microsoft Office products, social media, and other Web 2.0 technology.

Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years experience in media relations, preferably as a working journalist (broadcast experience is a plus), or Public Information Officer handling media relations/public relations for a non-profit organization, university, or member-based scientific society. Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in communications, journalism, marketing, or public/media relations, along with a background in social science (e.g., sociology, psychology, anthropology, economics, political science, science policy).
