Editorial Internship Yahoo Canada Location : Ontario Job Description: We are looking for an enthusiastic and creative Internet thinker who is inspired to think outside of the box when it comes to posting and developing content online.The position includes performing a wide range of editorial duties in English media department of Yahoo! Canada including news, sports and finance channels. Duties would include headline writing, copy-editing, moderation, and QA and user interaction product development for final posting, publication, or product release. Candidate must be willing to work some weekends and morning/evening news shift work. Candidate should have a demonstrated ability to create and edit content and documents in a voice and style that comply with Canadian Press style and the Yahoo! Editorial Style Guide. Experience in web content or new product development, journalism, documentation, and offline publishing is a must.Candidate should have knowledge of procedures, process, and best practices of specific medium. Candidate should be able to multi-task a range of editorial duties within a fast-paced, collaborative work environment. All candidates should be conversant in popular culture, Internet technology and be highly motivated self-starters. Evidence of depth of commitment to writing and editing, a wide degree of creativity, and a positive attitude are highly desirable. Key Responsibilities: • Have a passion for posting online content and breaking news first
• Exceptional content aggregator – know how and when to package stories together
• Some experience working with freelance writers and editors remotely
• Some experience with blogging, and moderating/filtering content on the web
• Produce special features and content packages that are timely and relevant
• Proven writing and time-sensitive editing abilities
• Ability to work under tight deadlines on a daily basis
• Proven ability to write engaging, tight headlines
• Ensure accuracy and style and voice consistency of all content by double-checking links, facts
• Knowledge of CP Style guide and good web writing style
• Knowledge of encouraging community, interactivity and cross promotion of news across a network
• Knowledge of innovative websites in the market and working knowledge of competitors in the news arena in Canada Requirements: • Degree in journalism or a related field
• Fluent in both official languages (written and verbal)
• Outstanding news judgment – the ability to discern and differentiate what makes a news story relevant
• Interest and possibly some working experience in an online content environment
• Some experience with posting multimedia, broadband and video content
• Team player with the ability to work without supervision when needed and to act quickly under deadline
• Ability to edit wide range of content quickly and accurately with great attention to detail
• Collaborative and communicative work ethic
• Ability to achieve and provide key editorial value within a deadline-driven environment
• Ability to work independently under tight deadlines
• Mastery of web editing tools and software
• Proficient in good web practice and procedure
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to take initiative and effectively prioritize efforts
