Job Description:

The New York Times is looking for a personal finance producer to join our Web newsroom. He or she will work with reporters and editors to build out and produce the personal finance area of the business section, ensuring that our coverage is useful, up to date and visually arresting, and that it brings the smarts and sophistication of The New York Times to life on the Web. The ideal candidate must be comfortable working in a collaborative, competitive, deadline-oriented news environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Collaborating with editors, producers, reporters and product managers to shape the personal finance section of NYTimes.com.
- Working closely with various members of The Times?s business desk to ensure that the section is both a useful resource and a destination for up-to-date news.
- Creating special packages and multimedia features to accompany breaking news or special features.
- Conceiving of personal finance tools, and working with editors and developers to build them for the site.
- Selecting, cropping and toning photographs.
- Writing concise summaries and headlines for articles.  Writing captions and headlines in a manner consistent with Times style.

EXPERIENCE:

- A strong, demonstrable passion for journalism in all forms, including blogs and multimedia.
- Writing, editing and research proficiency.
- Exceptional computer skills and familiarity with online media, including proficiency in Photoshop, HTML, blogging software and other applications. A working knowledge of audio editing tools is a plus.
- Attention to detail.
- Comfortable with change and willing to adapt to the constant flow of news.
- Ability to work well in a collaborative environment.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule that many include nights and weekends.
